A Empirical Study on the Applying Logistics Information System and Performance of Domestic Firms

In recent years, the importance of logistics, especially logistics information system cannot be emphasized too much. As the competitiveness of a firm has a close relationship with the construction of integrated logistics information system, many domestic firms make an effort to strengthen their competitiveness. In order to meet these requirements, many domestic firms should consider progressive investment in logistics information system, basic logistics technology. and logistics administration. But what is more important is that logistics performance can be different by the relationship among the firm’s characteristics such as logistics strategic capacity, strengthening logistics organization, basic logistics technology level, and logistics administration ability. Therefore, the objective of this study was to examine the relationships among structural factors such as business characteristics, logistics management activities, logistics information technology, and application of logistics information system and performance. The survey was conducted on the Pusan and Kyungnam area listed & registered logistics and manufacturing firms to test this model and 174 samples were collected. After collecting data. T-test, correlation analysis, and multi-regression analysis were used for assessing the difference of applying logistics information system and performance, the relationship between logistics information system and performance, and the factor of logistics influencing information system application and performance. The results of this study were summarized as follows : 1) There was difference in the application of logistics information system according to the business specific variable. 2) The application and performance of logistics information system between manufacturing and logistics firms in channel position did not seem to be of great difference. 3) It was found that the factors of logistics management capacity such as business managers had relation with the logistics information system application. 4) It was found that the application of logistics information system had affirmative relation with logistics performance and also found that the improved service to customer by top manager has the higer relationship than the logistics cost reduction. Here, I’d like to present some implications in reference to the results of this study. 1) The application of logistics information system can be raised by top and logistics manager’s positive interests. As a result, logistics performance becomes efficient. 2) The technology of logistics information is still feeble. Each firm will be able to raise the technology level by introducing EDI from abroad. 3) There is a little difference in the application of logistics system according to the business scale. 4) One of the most apparent characteristics is the logistics performance. As a result of this study, firms think that the service to their customers is more important than the reduction of logistics cost. 5) The weak point in the logistics management activities is the shortage of specialists in the field of logistics. 6) The higher the firms apply logistics information system, the higher they perform logistics.
