A Way To Understand The System of Art-World and The Reality of Korea

We are very familiar with the term “Art-World” to designate the system in which Art is produced, circulated and converted into some value that is capital for its raison-d’etre. In fact, the “System of Art-World(let’s say “SA” as its abbreviation)”, in its essence, is a system of "evaluation" and "valorization" of some unknown contents that artworks produce in the complex process of exchange among its players. It is very important to understand actual SA in the global situation to make sense to each artistic activity and its results. It urges us to examine what is the proper meaning of artistic production and its evaluation and circulation. Artistic production is, above all, a production of its value. So is the art evaluation and its circulation. “Artistic value” must first be considered as the objective of SA. We are defining contemporary art also as this. In Korea, where the SA is not yet properly perceived as contemporary one, that is to say, a very complex and challenging system of producing, evaluating and circulating artistic values, it is often misunderstood as just a conventional process of treating given artworks as decoration or tradition or occasion of making money that actually it is not. So arise the necessity to describe proper SA thai especially young artists should understand to catch up with the current problems of creation not only in Korea but also in the global world.
