慶州 九皇洞 金製如來坐像(Seated golden buddha statue in Guhwangdong, Gyeongju : National Treasure No.79) was put in the sarira casket of 九皇洞 三層石塔(Three storied Pagoda of Goohwang-dong) which was belonged to the Hwangboksa temple. It is assumed as the ‘全金 彌陀像(the Amita statue made of pure gold)’ according to the inscription of sarira casket. Even though the height of this statue is 12.2cm, it represents the high skills for the sake of splendid expressions like halo-like nimbus and other details. It was assumed that it was put at the moment of restoration of stupa in 706 A.D. and known as the important standard work in the early unified Silla. It represents the advanced style of T'ang Dynasty in China remarkably more than before because it shows the Chinese composition of the halo-like nimbus and the expression of the face and the garment-suspended seat from the second half of 7th century to the early 8th century. It means the active cultural acceptance as the close political relationship between the Silla and T'ang dynasty along. On the other hand, it shows the inherited elements from the domestic style. The style of Buddhist statue during the early unified Silla had the peculiarities with acceptance of foreign style as the expression of body, hand and garment since the Seated golden Buddha statue in Guhwangdong. In other words, it can be the indicator to distinguish the transitional style in the early unified Silla.
