Most of the large 3PLs move towards being 4PLs, alone or thru partnerships, by integrating a large range of operations and new added value services addressing forecasting, planning and supply chain global optimization. Across many industries, logistics outsourcing is to save costs or improve service and achieve competitive advantage. A logistics portal, especially, web-based logistics service provider, is virtual community where buyers and sellers relating to logistics services enter into business. It provides a market place for buyers and sellers to meet their needs and to optimize networks, and to execute transactions. Therefore, this study tries to analyze the com- petitiveness of web-based logistics services with 11 internet logistics e-marketplaces competing to offer comprehensive services and to become a profitable portal. The result of this study are as followings: the primary finding in the web-based logistics services is prominent technology over others. Technology enables successful logistics services and doing good business in logistics services. The second success factor is that common services like freight rate calculation and documentary service are not prevailing way to gain comparative advantages. The last finding is most service providers are used with auction as payment way. A kind of state-of-the-art techniques are deployed to maximize profits and to avoid uncertain risks in trade.
