A Study on the Strategies to attract Transhipment Container Cargoes in Korea

The purpose of this study is to suggest the strategies to attract transhipment container cargoes according to the forecast of transhipment in Korea. It is forecasted that the transhipment container forecasts in Korea is 7.08mTEU in 2006, 11.53mTEU in 2011, 14.81mTEU in 2015, 18.56mTEU in 2020. The transhipment container forecasts of the port of Pusan is 4.44mTEU, the port of Kwangyang 2.64mTEU in 2006, and the transhipment container forecasts of the port of Pusan is 10.63mTEU, the port of Kwangyang 7.91mTEU in 2020. We suggest the attraction strategies in the position of operating companies and the government. For the attraction strategies of operating companies, improvement of port productivity, imposition of flexible port tariffs, enforcement of port marketing, attraction of shipping companies, and building of port operation information system and EDI network are suggested. For the attraction strategies of the government, additional construction of containerport, the flexible policies of port taxes and free time, enforcement of port marketing, network of logistics information, and construction of hinterland logistics center are suggested.
