우즈벡 알퍼므쉬와 한국 주몽신화의 활쏘기 모티프 비교연구

A comparative study on the motifs of shooting an arrow in the myth of Korean Jumong and the Uzbek Alpamish Foreign Literature Studies

주몽신화는 한국역사에서 가장 방대한 영토를 보유했던 대제국 고구려의 건국신화이다. 우즈벡 민족의 알퍼므쉬의 경우, 민족이 형성되는 과정에서 창작된 민족통합과 부족의 탄생을 다룬 신화로서 건국신화와 부족탄생 신화의 성격을 갖는다. 두 신화는 모두 영웅 신화라는 점에서 공통점을 갖는다. 그런데 이 두 영웅신화에서는 주몽과 알퍼므쉬라는 두 영웅이 영웅성을 인정받는 과정에서 활쏘기 모티프가 중요한 역할을 하게 된다. 먼저, 주몽과 알퍼므쉬는 모두 활쏘기 능력을 통해 자신이 영웅임을 인정받게 되며, 이러한 능력을 입증 받은 후 각각 “영웅”이라는 의미를 지닌 ‘주몽’과 ‘알퍼므쉬’라는 이름을 얻게 된다. 주몽과 알퍼므쉬는 모두 신이한 탄생과정을 보여주고 있다. 주몽은 유화의 품 안에 해가 비치어 잉태된 후 알의 형태로 태어났으며, 유기되지만 동물의 보호를 받았다. 알퍼므쉬는 40일 기도 끝에 신의 음성을 통해 잉태를 약속받은 후 태어났다. 이러한 두 영웅의 신이한 출생에 이어 이들의 정체성을 확인시켜주는 것이 활쏘기이다. 두 번째, 기득권과 대결하고 활쏘기 경합을 하게 되는데, 그 과정에서 상대방을 압도시키고 세력을 얻게 되어 권력자로 부상하게 된다. 이것은 역시 영웅으로 거듭나는 통과의례를 보여준다. 주몽은 토착 기득세력 송양과의 대결을 통해 영웅으로 거듭나게 된다. 알퍼므쉬는 위험에 처한 바르친을 구해내고, 칼먹국의 기득권 세력과 대결함으로써 본격적인 영웅으로 거듭나며, 1차적인 부족통합에 성공하게 된다. 세 번째는, 활쏘기가 혈통을 인정받고 신분을 상징하는 의미를 갖는다는 것이다. 두 사람은 모두 자신의 신통력을 발휘함으로써 범인이나 속인이 아닌 천의 혈통, 즉 신의 계시를 받고 태어난 인물임을 검증받게 된다. 이는 활쏘기가 태양숭배사상과 관련이 있기 때문이다. 마지막으로 활쏘기는 두 신화에서 모두 새로운 질서를 창조할 수 있는 힘을 가진 자를 상징하고 있다. 이 점 역시 태양신이라는 지고신이 지상권을 갖는 것과 관계가 있다.

Jumong and Alpamish are epic mythological figures from two different countries. Jumong founded and gave the historical name of Goguryo to Korea. In the case of Alpamish, although he did not exist in real history, he reflects the imagination, manners and customs of the Uzbek people. In both myths, the motifs of shooting an arrow show the spirituality and functions of a hero. Jumong and Alpamish were both born in a particular manner. The skillful use of the bow and arrow is characteristic of a man who has received spiritual powers from the gods. Jumong was the grandson of both the God of the Sky and the God of the River. Alpamish was also born after consulting the oracle following his father’s 40 days of prayer. We can say that Jumong and Alpamish authenticated and identified themselves through their ability to shoot an arrow. Secondly, both were from noble families and had a connection to spiritual power. Jumong and Alpamish harbored jealousy against them because of their unusual talents. It drew them into dangerous situations. They confronted with the vested rights and competed with them of shooting an arrow, in the end they struggled with adversity and overcame all difficulties, so they could be reborn as real heroes. Thirdly, they identified themselves by shooting an arrow ability and showed themselves coming from royal and spiritual blood, especially the Sun god. Finally, in many cases shooting an arrow represents the beginning of the cosmos, of a country, a world, or a new order. Since shooting an arrow means a new beginning, they cannot be ordinary persons; they have to be spiritual figures, heros, or the founders of a nation.
