전래동화의 비판적 읽기를 통한 초등 영어 문자 교육의 가능성에 대한 연구

A Study of Primary English Literacy Education Through Critical Reading of Folktales

The purpose of this study was to explore the possibility of using folktales in primary English education by encouraging students to think critically. To accomplish the objective, two research questions were set up: 1) What are the effects of using folktales when elementary students read them critically? 2) What are the aspects of students’ English learning through class discussion and writing? To find the answers to the research questions, data from diverse sources were collected and analyzed. The first finding explored the value of using folktales in primary English instruction. For example, students could expand their opinions and present critical ideas through critical reading of diverse folktales. The second finding showed that students were gradually progressing in English abilities by discussing and writing about their opinions using critical thinking skills. Based on the results of this study, some suggestions for further research were provided.
