〈신랑의 보쌈〉의 성격과 개작양상에 대한 연구

A study on character and adaption shapes of 〈Bossam of Shinrang〉

본고는 1917년에 발행된 구활자본 고소설 〈신랑의 보쌈〉의 성격과 개작양상, 그리고 소설사적 의의를 고찰한 것이다. 〈신랑의 보쌈〉은 전대에 존재했던 〈정수경전〉과 밀접한 관련성이 있다. 〈정수경전〉은 과거 길을 떠한 한 청년이 운명으로 주어진 여러 난관을 극복하고 행복한 결말에 이른다는 내용이다. 〈신랑의 보쌈〉도 이런 줄거리를 이어받았다. 그러나 동물과 초월적 존재의 구원, 범인 추포 과정, 악인의 간계로 인한 혼사장애, 여성인물의 정절과 일부다처제 수용, 보쌈폐지 관련 내용 등은 〈신랑의 보쌈〉에서 새롭게 설정된 것이다. 또한 인물을 새롭게 창조하고 역전서술 기법을 활용하여 작품의 흥미를 높였다. 진술방식 상으로는 신소설적 표현을 일부 구사하연서 서술자 개입이 강화되었다. 서술자는 작품의 내용을 그냥 보여주지 않고 독자들을 자신의 설명과 해석으로 인도하려는 성향을 보여주었다. 아울러 서술자는 인물의 내면심리 표출을 중시했다. 작가의 주제의식으로는 효와 정절의 윤리, 계몽의식 등이 두드러졌다. 〈신랑의 보쌈〉은 고소설적 성격을 유지하면서 신소설적 요소도 일부 가미된 작품이다. 이러한 성격은 1910년대 후반에 발행된 활자본 고소설의 성격과 궤를 같이 한다. 1910년대 당시 일부 고소설 중에는 신소설 득세기에는 신소설적 성격의 작품으로 개작되었다가, 다시 고소설적 성격의 작품이 득세했을 때는 고소설적 성격이 강한 활자본으로 개작되었다. 〈정수경진〉이 〈옥중금낭〉으로 개작되었다가, 다시 〈신랑의 보쌈〉으로 개작된 것도 그러한 경우이다.

This paper investigated character and adaption shapes of 〈Bossam of Shinrang〉. And through it. meaning of novel history was investigated. 〈Bossarn of Shinrang〉 was based on 〈Jeongsookyeongjeon〉. Therefore comparison of 〈Bossam of Shinrang〉 and 〈Jeongsookyeongjeon〉 is necessary. 〈Jeongsookyeongjeon〉 is composed of ceremonial walk for examination, fateful hardship, hardship surmount of a young man. 〈Bossam of Shinrang〉 was succeeded contents of 〈Jeongsookyeongjeon〉. However. rescue of animal and transcendental person. criminal hunt course. marriage obstacle is caused villain. chastity of woman, polygamic customs. Bossam story was new set. And interest of work was increased through creation of new characters. reverse description technique. The intervention of narrator was stand out. The narrator had a dash at draw readers in his explanation and interpretation. Besides. the narrator put stress on inner description of characters. A filial duty and chastity. enlightenment concept was stand out. This is thematic concept. 〈Bossam of Shinrang〉 has both the succeeded shape of a classical novel and the shape of new novel. But the succeeded shape of a classical novel is more stand out. One part of classical novel was adapted new novel at gain power of new novel. Also, One part of classical novel was adapted shape of a classical novel at gain power of classical novel. The typical example is 〈Okjungkeumnang〉 and 〈Bossam of Shinran〉. 〈Jeongsookyeongjeon〉 was adapted novel of 〈Okungkeumnang〉 at gain power of new novel. Also, 〈Jeongsookyeongjeon〉 was adapted novel of 〈Bossam of Shinrang〉 at gain power of classical novel. Therefore. 〈Bossarn of Shinrang〉 has meaning that it represent rebirth a printed copy classical novel go through new novel gain power time.
