The purpose of this study is to explore initial motivations of gamblers who take part in casino games as a leisure activity. Based on previous theories, an exploratory research was conducted through in-dept interviews with domestic gamblers at Kangwon-Land, Korea. The result of the research shows that the more gamblers experience games the higher they take risk. The result also suggests that gamblers’ motivations for games reflect not only intrinsic motivations such as sense of accomplishment and satisfaction but also extrinsic motivations such as material reward. On the other hand, once motivation is reinforced by much experiencing games, motivation for gambling and risk-taking aren’t affected by obstacles like a geographic location.
