‘소규모 지역’ 에 있어서 지역 정체성의 재현과 지역지의 서술 체재에 관한 연구

Regional Identities and Narrative Format of Regional Geographies in the ‘Local-Scale Region’

본 연구는 최근 급증하고 있는 소지역 단위의 지역지 발간에 주목하고, 그 부상 배경을 지역 정체성의 재현이라는 맥락에서 조명하면서 경기도 소재 시·군을 사례로 지역지의 발간 실태와 서술 체재를 검토 하였다. 연구자는 우리나라에서 소지역 단위의 지역지 발간이 최근 지성계의 지역 정체성 담론, 오랜 역사적, 사회적, 일상적 단위 공간으로서 시·군 스케일의 공간이 갖는 의미, 세계화에 대한 지역적 반응의 과정등과 맞물려 진행되는 현상이라 이해하였다. 특히 코로그라피 및 읍지라는 동·서양의 고전적인 지역지 전통을 근거로 지역지의 본질과 서술 체재상의 특징을 검토함으로써 현대 지역지에 주는 그 함의를 도출해 보고자 하였다. 또한 지역지를 로컬 지식으로 포용할 것과 이와 관련된 논의에 제도권 학자들이 진정성을 갖고 참여해야 할 필요성 및 향토 학자들과의 소통의 중요성을 강조하였다.

This study takes notice of rapid increase in publications of regional geography local-scale regions, illuminates the context of such increase in terms of the representation of regional identities, and investigates the actual conditions and narrative format of regional geography of cities and towns in Gyeong-gi province. The author understood that regional geographies published in local-scale regions in Korea are linked with the discourses of regional identities in the intellectual world, the significance of local-scale region as unit space of history, community, and every day life in Korea, and local response to globalization. The author tried to draw some suggestions and significance to recent regional geographies by considering the chorography and eup-ji(邑誌) as classics in regional geographies. This study emphasized the scholarly necessity to take part in discussing regional geographies as a local knowledge, and the importance of communication between scholars and students of local geography and history.
