Building Database with Digital Dongyeo and Web-based Old Map Service

이 연구는 고문헌자료의 중요한 정보원 중의 하나인 지리 및 지명 정보를 웹기반 고지도에서 쉽고 편리하게 활용할 수 있도록 하기 위함이다. 고지도는 당시의 지형 뿐 아니라 행정, 군사, 지리정보를 파악할수 있는 귀중한 정보를 담고 있어서 지리학 뿐 아니라 한국사, 과학사, 미술사 등 다양한 학문분야에서 활용할 수 있다. 고문헌자료의 지명정보를 시각적, 공간적으로 보여줄 수 있는 웹기반 고지도 서비스는 고문헌 연구 기반 강화에 도움을 줄 수 있을 것이다. 본고는 디지털 동여도 데이터베이스 구축의 전 과정을 일목요연하게 보여 주며 웹기반 고지도 서비스 체계의 설계 및 구현 결과를 예시를 통해 설명한다. 고지도의 웹서비스는 고지도를 직접 접하기 어려운 고문헌 연구자 및 역사에 관심있는 많은 이용자로 하여금 고문헌 자료에 한층 더 가까이 갈 수 있는 계기가 될 것이다.

This study aims at improving the web-based database system of geographic information and place names in old maps. Old maps contain important information on not only past geomorphology, but also administrative, military, and geographic facts. The information is useful in the fields of Korean history, history of science, and arts history. The web-based information service on old maps will contribute to studying place names and other visual materials. This study introduces a case of such information service, covering the basic structure of database and its user-interfaced results. I hope that this study would help scholars gain a higher access to old documents and maps in Korea.
