淸陰 金尙憲의「羣玉所記」에 대한 篆刻美學的 硏究

A Study on Aesthetic Seal Engraving in Gunoksogi(羣玉所記) by Kim Sang-heon

본 연구는 淸陰 金尙憲의 「淸陰集」「羣玉所記」에 기록된 내용과 그의 전각을 기본으로 하여 儒家의 관점에서 미학적 사유와 특징을 살펴본 것이다. 아울러 조선조시대에 실용이나 기술을 위주로 한 工人전각과 다른 미학적 성격을 갖춘 文士의 전각이 어떠한 양상으로 드러났는가를 규명함으로써 전각의 미학적 가치를 밝혀보고자 한 것이다. 청음은 16세기 말에서 17세기 초 조선조 최대의 국난기에 정치ㆍ사상ㆍ문학 등에서 독보적인 역할과 업적을 남겼을 뿐 아니라 전각에도 커다란 역할을 한 인물이다. 그는淸西派의 영수로서 斥和의 상징이며, 道學 위주의 학풍과 바른 인품을 함양해 節義를 지켰다. 文人士大夫인 그가 당시 기술의 말단으로 취급되었던 전각을 직접 창작하고 또 그것에 대한 기록을 남겼다. 그가 전각을 거침없이 창작하고 견해를 밝힌 것은 明ㆍ淸代 印風의 예술적 영향도 있었지만, 이보다는 전각을 도의한 방면, 즉 道文一致의 형태로 인식했기 때문이다. 「淸陰集」「羣玉所記」에는 그가 새긴 전각의 형태에 대한 자세한 설명과 함께 전각의 미학적 사유와 특징이 잘 나타나 있다.「군옥소기」에 나타난 전각미학적 특징은 크게 方圓規矩의 整合美ㆍ文以 載道的 品格美ㆍ儒家의 美學的 氣象란 측면으로 나타나 있다. 이 특징들은 청음이 전각에 도학자로서의 모습을 미학적으로 표현함으로써 유가의 공리성을 밝히고 있다. 「군옥소기」에 기록된 청음의 전각미학적 견해는 한국 문인전각의 단초를 열었으며, 전각예술의 독자성을 학문적으로 정립시켰다는 점에서 커다란 의미를 지닌다. 그가 남긴 전각에 대한 미학적 업적은 후대 문인들에게 영향을 주어 문인전각의 맥을 잇게 하였다는 점에서 역사적 공헌과 미학적 가치가 크다고 하겠다.

The most significant change in history of seal engraving in Korea is to appear literati-seal engravers with artistic, aesthetic personality, different from artisan engravers served functional purpose around Japanese Invasion of the JoseonDynasty in 1592. Among them, Kim Sang-heon(Cheong-eum) left behind remarkable achievements and was devoted to his role in the field of politics, thought, literature, and especially seal engraving during the greatest national crisis. He was a prominent figure of the scholars who strongly argued against making peace with Qing dynasty and loyal to Neo-Confucianists’ principle developing a noble character. Although he was a literary nobleman, he wrote essays on seal engraving treated as a low-level craft and created seals. Because he considered seal engraving as a moral culture, not a handcraft, and was influenced by the trend of seal engraving of Ming and Qing, he could freely create seals and stated his view on them. Explaining forms of seal engraving he created, Kim revealed his aesthetic thoughts and distinct features of seal engraving in the collection of writings and the essay on seal engraving named Gunoksogi. The aesthetic features of seal engraving in the essay branches into three, beauty of conformity in square and circle, beauty of dignity in the view of seal engraving included with the way(Tao), and Confucianistic spirit of literati. These features tell us that he expressed East-Asian traditional custom as the aesthetic, made seal engraving contain ethical utility, and experienced a pleasure in those. Kim’s aesthetic view recorded in the essay became a lead for literati-seal engraving and academically founded artistic seal engraving’s identity. His aesthetic achievements influenced on later literati and made them continue the legacy of literati-seal engraving. Here are his historical devotion and aesthetic worth.
