사교육 효과와 원인에 관한 메타 분석

Meta-Analysis on Effects and Causing Factors of Private Tutoring Expenditure in Korea

본 연구는 사교육 효과와 원인에 관한 연구들을 메타분석법으로 결과를 평가하고자 하였다. 사교육 효과와 발생 원인을 판단하고자 하는 노력들이 증대되고 있으나 이들 연구들은 대부분 개별적인 연구단위로 보고되고 있으며, 경우에 따라서는 연구의 결과들이 다르게 나타나 사교육 효과와 원인에 대한 일반적인 결론을 얻기에 어려움이 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 사교육 효과와 발생 원인에 대해 포괄적인 분석이 필요하다고 보고 이에 대한 종합적인 판단을 위해 메타분석을 활용해 연구의 결과들을 평가해 보는데 의의가 있다. 메타분석 방법은 특정 영역의 효과나 영향을 검증하기 위해 여러 개별 연구들의 결과를 하나로 종합하여 결론을 이끌어내는 분석법이다. 구조방정식모형을 활용한 사교육비 지출과 관련된 다양한 연구들이 활발하게 진행되고 있는 시점에서 메타분석방법을 적용하여 선행연구 결과에 대한 체계적이고 일반적인 결론을 정리해 보는 것은 사교육 효과와 사교육 발생 원인을 종합적으로 판단하는 데 유용한 정보를 제공해 줄 것이다. 본 연구에서는 다음의 주요 내용에 대해 메타분석을 하고 그 결과를 제시하였다. 첫째, 가정배경과 학교교육 그리고 사교육이 학업성취에 미치는 영향 분석, 둘째, 고교평준화 제도가 중학생 및 고등학생의 사교육비 지출에 미치는 영향 분석, 셋째, 특목고 진학희망과 학교불만족이 중학생의 사교육비 지출에 미치는 영향 분석, 넷째, 선호대학 진학희망과 학교불만족이 일반고와 외국어고 학생의 사교육비 지출에 미치는 영향 분석이다.

The purpose of this study is to analyse and evaluate the research findings on private tutoring expenditure by using meta-analysis method. Many researches have been carried out and are presenting research findings on effects and causing factors of private tutoring in Korea. However, previous research findings are based on individual research design and sometimes the findings are contradict each other on the same subject. Therefore it’s time to understand the whole picture of the individual research on private tutoring expenditure by using meta-analysis method. In this study, the meta-analysis method has been administered on the following topics, (1) the relationship among SES, school education, private tutoring, and academic achievement, (2) the relationship among high school equalization policy and students’ private tutoring expenditure in middle and high schools, (3) the relationship among special purpose high school, school education dissatisfaction, and private tutoring expenditure of middle school students, (4) the relationship among aspiration of prestigious college, school education dissatisfaction, and private tutoring expenditure of general high school students and special purpose high school students.
