Analysis of Korean Idols’ Makeup -Focusing on both male and female idols in full swing in 2011-

Pop culture has rapidly evolved in a systematic manner, keeping pace with the current trends, and a verity of culture has been formed. In particular, ‘idol groups’ have created a sensation with exceptional makeup and hairdos, and the public has imitated their style. This study has attempted to analyze unusual idol makeup which has often appeared on visual media, such as TV shows, among those who are in full swing this year. For example, male idol groups such as Beast, Shinee and 2PM often wear black or brown eyeliner, while female idols including MISS A, 4Minute and F(x) prefer natural makeup in pink or nude. While a strong and dark makeup is now the trend among male idols, a pure and doll-like natural makeup has always been the mainstream among the female idol groups. This study has concentrated on eyes and lips only. It appearsthat a further study should be performed on idol culture in terms of analysis of beauty image.
