The residents'(host community) perceptions towards tourism development during the process of political integration(reunification) need to systematic investigation. This paper explores residents' perceptions on both sides of the former East and West Germany, in regard to tourism development focusing on the economic, sociocultural and environmental aspects. Tourism development has costs and benefits from the residents' point of view, and there need to be taken into account by relevant government ministries, and tourism organizations.
