A Study on Alternatives to Promoting Rural Tourism - In Case of Shinchon Village in Gwangyang City -

There are various attempts about green tourism with increasing political interest in rural economy. Rural tourism is becoming attractive target because of social-environmental causes such as the expansion of leisure time like working and schooling 5 days in a week and approachability to improved network of streets. The object of the study is to search the form and level of residents’ participation in experiencing green rural village project that is selected to hold in Shinchon village, Gwangyang-city, Jeollanam-do and to show the actual state of residents’ awareness about participation. In addition, it would take investigation in the very spot about residents’ participation that has been discussed in basic stage and suggest the importance of activating rural tourism. As a result, the most efficient way to activate the residents’ participation is to make a variety of chances in education and field trip. It is saying that continuous education, expert’s consult and related system’s interest should be operated organically for the village development through project. Rural tourism is soft tourism, a new type that makes development in the area because the residents are the main body and they can attract urban people with the area’s specialty and also it is embodied in green or ecological tourism all over the world. If we consider Korean rural state that had already become depopulating and aging, rural tourism can be the practical alternative for continuing rural development.
