This study is about the regional festivals of Korea. Since the election of local autonomy in June 1995, local governments have viewed festivals as regional tourism attractions, creator of economic benefit, improvement of local culture, and regional image-maker. Main results of research are as follows; most festivals are hold in not metropolitan ares but at local area; parts of Kyongnam and Kyongbuk province in total cases are declined, on the contrary, Kyonggi and Kangwon provinces are occupied the high position: public-private cooperation pattern is growing as the sponsor and manager of festival: season of festivals has equalized all the year round: the period of festival is extended gradually: main purpose of festival has changed from local reconciliation and unity to tourism promotion: main type of festivals is altered from comprehensive festival to tourism festivals: autonomic operation and culture attribute of festivals become weak. Implications and suggestions of this study are as follows; urban festivals have to develop as soon as possible: it is necessary to specialize the festivals: participation of citizens magnify into the planning and operation of festivals: local festivals have to segment into resident-oriented and tourist-oriented festivals: the duplicated and similarity among the festivals must be sett1ed without delay: it is important to build the medium or long plan(strategy) of good festival for the sustainable holding: lastly, monitoring and feedback of outcome of festivals is needed to seek the maximum impacts.
