The purpose of this festival is to evaluate the participants’ motive for participation in order to ascertain a basis of information for identifying the target audience for developing the most effective event program. Methodology involved survey taken from participants of Jindo Yeongdeung Festival about their motive for participation, resulting in categorization of five main reasons, escape from routine, socialization, experience, event novelty and expectation. The strongest motivations were shown to be expectation for nature appreciation such as walking of the sea -Moses parting the sea- and event novelty for the attraction of the festival. Therefore, emphasis on these motivations indicate the need for the development of an active hands-on experience programs and more various event plans for the festival.
