A Study on a Clean Bill of Lading - Focusing on its Issuing Requirements, Declaration Styles and Spin-offs -

A document of title and thereby negotiability on a bill of lading were introduced to explain the cargo in place of the cargo being shipped and monopolize a bill of lading as its replacement. A clean bill of lading has been established for the same reason. In case of an accident caused by defects in the appearance of freight, other freight and vessel, including the freight concerned, incur loss and damage. Thus, transporters needed to specify the defects of cargo on a bill of lading that they issued in order to insist that they be exempted from responsibility. The reason why a clean bill of lading reinforces a document of title is analyzed as: the monetary value of a bill of lading assuming a document of title is the value of freight after all; the side effects and problems occurring when a foul bill of lading is issued and cleanness improve the credibility of a bill of lading. On board and ocean bills of lading reinforce a document of title of a bill of lading, to obtain freight in good order and condition at the right time through shipment of freight on a seaworthy ocean vessel and its safe delivery. Likewise, a clean bill of lading has some significance in that it has been created to reinforce these characteristics.
