Development of Collision Avoidance Expert System by Using CLIPS and Visual C++(Ⅰ)

Collision avoidance expert system is always paid especially attention by scientific research units all over the world. This paper presents a new try on this field which imports CLIPS(C Language Integrated Production System) into Visual C++ and uses some basic navigation rules according to COLREGs(Convention on the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea, 1972) and experience of shipmasters and navigators. Moreover a new approach of collision risk evaluation using sech function is used in the expert system. As an attempt of groping for collision avoidance expert system field, the system the paper refers to can apply the suggestion of avoiding action to any specific situation. This can help navigators to judge present navigation situation quickly and correctly, and then do their best in making a decision of avoidance action for ships’ navigational safety.
