This paper aims to investigate S. Koreans perceptions on N. Korea and explore Korean nationalism. It can be concluded that S. Koreans have two-faced perceptions on N. Korea in 1990’. In this sense it is necessary that S. Korea’s policy toward N. Korea should be approached with two perspectives: one is to N. Korean regime; the other is to the people of the regime. On the contrary, as far as the issue of unification is concerned, S Koreans are very of nation-centered orientation. Once unification is made, S. Koreans may show mercy toward the people of the northern part of the Korean peninsula. Finally, Korean nationalism is analyzed on the continuum of openness-closure. It is more appropriate to say that Korean nationalism tends to show openness in order as such: personnel dimension > military and social dimension > economic dimension.
