Prospective Educational Problems Arising in the Process of North Korea’s Reformation

This paper is to analyze possible educational problems of North Korea, assuming that North Korea keeps on pursuing open-door policy. First of all, the paper is to examine at the characteristics of North Korea’s current educational system, and then to analyze socialist countries’ possible educational problems which show up when the countries pursue open-door policy. The possible problems in the socialist countries are believed to lead to the reformation of educational system. Based on the above analyses, the paper deals with North Korea’s possible problems which may be derived from the open-door policy in the future mainly sector by sector. With respect to educational system North Korea will be faced with a change in the system of occupational (technology) education, because it has not adaαed itself to demand for technical man-power necessary for economic development. With respect to curriculum North Korea will be faced with dissatisfaction, because it can not meet a variety of needs in the market, and old-fashioned ideology education of North Korea in the past is not suitable any longer. With respect to North Korea’s school-entrance system, its existing system of university-entrance exam will be severely confronted with challenges, because its system has placed an emphasis on people’s loyalty to the ruling party. North Korea’s administration system of education can not help allowing regional autonomy to some extent, because the system can not meet various needs of the society due to central governing and a lack of flexibility.
