The operation methods of marine medium-speed diesel engines are divided into two groups, one thing is to use the electric motors, the other is to use the air starting motors. Air starting motor is changed according to engine types, sizes, but most of marine medium-speed diesel engines use the air starting motors for the starting engines. Because air starting motors are simple, convenient and not troubles This paper describes the characteristics of the compressible flow of the air starting motors using CFD.
