People in contemporary times have shown increased interest in tea and there are more opportunities to drink tea. However, research into fundamental reasons and philosophies regarding tea has not been sufficient. This dissertation is aimed at research on the view point of drinking tea. This study utilized 668 poems of 119 scholars' from the beginning of the Chosun dynasty until western invasion as basic material for research. The objective of this study is to provide details on families who enjoyed tea culture. Results of this study demonstrate that tea culture was regarded externally as a part of a luxurious life style, and internally as a way of fostering moral character. However, it was, of course, a medium of social cohesion.
