A Legal Review of Abortion and the Consciousness of Female University Students

It's undeniable that abortion is one of serious problems with Korean society. Although the criminal law defines it as a criminal in principle, it is widely approved in real life, and people aren't apprehensive of it since there are few cases to inflict punishment on that. The uselessness of the abortion act makes our country called a heaven of abortion. Moreover, abortion tends to be increasingly justified due to liberal sexual culture and increase in working women. The advance in contraception and abortion techniques contributes to sparking more abortion, and there is a global trend to permit it legally. The purpose of this study was to shed light on abortion from a legal viewpoint to get the right understanding of its problems. The conception of abortion and its chronological history in the Untied States and Germany were described, and it's attempted to make a profound research by discussing the state of abortion, unborn child's right to life, woman's choice for induced abortion, relevant law and precedents. As for relevant law, the criminal law and maternity health act were investigated. Besides, how female university students perceived abortion was examined, and finally, workable measures to work out this problem were presented.
