Comparative Study of Native Speakers' Speaking Korean and English in English Conversation Class and Its Relationship with the Students' Achievements in English Acquisition

This study aims to explore whether students' mother tongue (Korean) or the target language (English) is used as teacher/student communication channel has any relationship with students' English speaking achievements. To that end, the study employs two native speakers of English as the teachers, one with only target language in comparison group and the other with fluent Korean in experimental group. The study has used oral tests for measuring the students' English achievements, and questionnaires for understanding their perceptions about their classes. After six months' experiment duration, the study has concluded that the two groups do not demonstrate significant differences with each other, even though both of the groups have shown significant improvements in six months.
