대학 역사교육의 현황과 과제

The Present States and Problems of Universities' History Teaching

지금까지 대학의 역사교육에 대한 연구는 미미하였다. 그것은 역사교육 연구자의 수가 적었던 탓이지만 대학 역사교육의 실태에 대한 관심이 많지 않았기 때문이었다. 본고에서는 교양교육으로서 대학 역사교육의 현황을 살펴보고 개선 방향을 제시하였다. 본고에서 살펴본 9개 대학교에서는 역사관련 교양과목으로 2000년에 3～27과목을 개설하고 있었고, 그로부터 8년이 지난 2008년에는 3～24과목을 개설하였다. 이로 볼 때 학교별로 과목수와 과목명에서 편차가 크고, 종래의 통사, 시대사, 분야사가 주제사로 바뀌고 있으며, 학생들의 흥미와 선택을 유도하기 위해 과목명을 순화하고 있다는 것을 알 수 있다. 여러 대학 중에서 서울대의 경우개설 과목수가 20여 개로 적절하였고, 과목명의 다양성과 균형성 면에서 가장 바람직한 형태를 띠고 있었다. 교양교육으로서 역사교육을 강화하기 위해서는 역사관련 교양과목 편성에서 계열성을 유지할 필요가 있다. 이를테면 개론 성격의 기본과목, 시대사나 분야사의 심화과목, 주제사의 흥미과목을 각기 다른 범주로 묶고 각 범주별로 하나 이상의 과목을 선택하도록 하는 것이 바람직할 것이다. 교양과목을 담당하는 강사는 학생들의 흥미를 끌고 효과적인 역사학습이 가능하도록 교재개발에 힘써야 하고 재미와 감동을 주는 교수학습 방법을 도입해야 할 것이다. 그리고 시간강사에게 맡기지 말고 전임교수가 교양과목 수업을 담당할 필요도 있다.

This paper intends to research the present states and problems of universities' history teaching. And this paper suggested their improvement methods. The nine universities researched in this paper organized 3～27 subjects in 2000, and organized 3～28 subjects in 2008. This research found that the numbers and names of subjects were different among the nine universities, and that the general history, the period history and the field history were changed into the thematic history. And this research found that those universities changed the names of history subjects in order to arouse the students' interest. This paper concluded that history subjects of the seoul national university was the best proper for general history teaching because of the appropriateness of subjects' numbers and the variety and balance of subjects' names. Improvement methods suggested in this paper were as follows. Firstly, the sequence in the organization of history liberal arts must be established. Secondly, the professors to teach history liberal arts must endeavor the subject matters' development to arouse the students' interest and introduce new teaching methods to offer good impression to the students.
