東都遊記 一考察

A Study on the Travelling Documents of Doogdo(東都)

東都는 平壤을 지칭하는 西都, 開城을 지칭하는 松都와 함께 3대 도읍지의 하나로, 신라 천년의 수도답게 동남쪽 지방의 으뜸이라 칭해질 만큼 화려하고 아름다움을 자랑한다. 또 당시의 상황을 엿볼 수 있는 유물이나 유적지가 잘 보존되어 있는 곳이어서 이곳을 유람하는 문인들은 일반적인 산하의 유람과는 달리 유물과 유적 답사에 더 비중을 두고 있었다. 이처럼 여타의 유기와 비교해 유람의 성격이 다름에도 불구하고 그동안의 연구 성과는 미진하였다. 때문에 본고는 동도유기를 고찰함으로써 동도유기의 특징적 면모를 살펴보았다. 동도유기는 번화하던 도읍을 회고하며 일순간에 한줌의 흙덩이로 되어버린 허망함과, 당시 신라왕이 즐기며 방탕을 일삼던 일들을 떠올리며 현재의 귀감으로 심었다. 또 유적에 들어가 그곳에 남아있는 유물 하나하나를 꼼꼼히 살펴보며 나아가 그곳에 관련된 역사적 사실 및 일화들을 소개하였으며, 선현들의 발자취를 따라 가보며 그들의 덕업을 기리고 자신의 지속적인 연찬의 기회로 삼았다. 그리고 유람의 결과물로 지어진 기록들은 당시 동도 일대의 문화유산들의 풍부한 보고가 되며 현재의 우리들에게 당시의 상황을 알 수 있는 중요한 자료가 되고 있다.

Dongdo, one of the three capitals with Seodo(西都) referred to Pyung yang(平壞) and Songdo(松都) referred to Gaesung(開城), boasts its gorgeousness and beautifulness, called as the best place in the east-southward areas like the capital of Shilla lasted for ten thousand years. And as the artifacts and the remains of those days have been well preserved even until now, by which we are able to know what the situations of those days were. Therefore, it is possible to say that the men of letters who travelled there placed a higher importance on a field study for artifacts and remains unlike other general travels to mountains and rivers. It is sure that the travelling documents of Dongdo are different from other travelling ones in their qualities. However, it is not possible to say that the studies on the travelling documents of Dongdo are sufficient. This study is to inquire into the travelling documents of Dongdo carefully, and then examines out the features of them. The travelling documents of Dongdo features a retrospection about the thrived capital, a sense of futility about the capital which became a handful lump of earth in a moment, a recall of things related with the King of Shilla who led a fast life, to evaluate those things as undesirable ones also in the present. In addition, the men of letters scrutinized the artifacts one by one, and further introduced some historical facts and anecdotes related with them. And the documents, the product of travel are the treasure house of the cultural heritages in the districts around Dongdo of those days, and also are the significant materials which tell us at this time the various situations of those days.
