In the contemporary era, most people, especially in the great cities regard sexuality and love, that is, intimacy as one of the most important criterion of the human autonomy, individuality and happiness. This paper deals with, from the perspective of Freud and Lacan, their theory of sexuality and love, and Luhmann’s view of the modern love, and the theories of several authors, who take part in the discussion of those themes. After that, this paper applies the theory of sexuality and love to the problem of cites and discusses the question of intimacy in the context of the cities. It also tries to give an account for the cultural, social and pathological meaning of sexuality and love for the metropolitan and contemporary people, and furthermore offer and theoretical ground for the question, how sexuality and love, regarded mostly as the personal affair, can be meaningfully applied to the metropolitan and social problems. In dealing with this question, this paper tries to enlarge the rather narrowly defined concept of Freudian love with regards to the lacanian interpretation of the freudian view. In this context, this paper deals with the lacanian view of love as ‘beyond the law’ and tries to apply this concept to one of the most important event happening in the great city, for example, oppression of the homeless, infringement of rights of non-owners of the real property in the course of the city development.
