A Study on the Characteristics of Groundwater Quality around the Gumgo-dong Landfill in Taejon

This study was carried out to analyze the characteristics of ground water quality around the Gumgo-dong landfill in Taejon on the basis of investigating observed data during 1995 to 1997. experiment and questionnaire. As the analysis of observed data. 12 items. general bacteria. E-coli. As, N0₃, color, pH, Zn, Fe, Mn, turbidity, AI, F were over the drinking water quality standard. Especially general bacteria. E-coli. and N0₃ have been exceeded the water quality standard for last 3 years. As the results of experiments of the groundwater around the landfill. it was found that all the 10 sampling wells were unfit for drinking water. Especially turbidity. CN. Phenol, and N0₃ were over the water quality standard. And it was found that the characteristics of groundwater pollution was similar to the characteristics of the other area at Yusong-Gu, so that it was uncertain that the landfill was the source of groundwater pollution around Gum-go dong area. As the questionnaire. it was found that most people at this area thought the groundwater quality was not changed after the construction of landfill.
