Water Quality and Geological Characteristics of the extremely Eutrophicated Reservoir

This study was investigated to evaluate water qualities and geological characteristics of Seosan Gopoong reservoir, where algae bloomed only on the research of 2002 project, eutrophicated by blooming of a lot of algae in Chungnam. Gopoong reservoir was eutrophicated temporarily and extremely by contamination of water quality in August 2002 and 2003. The concentration of COD, T-N and T-P was a contrast to Cheongchun reservoir that an uncontaminated reservoir. And T-N, T-P at Gopoong reservoir excessed eutrophication level by Vollenweider Index classification. As a result of correlation analysis between water quality and chlorophyll-a(mg/m³) by algal blooming, correlation coefficient among water temperature(℃) and T-N, T-P ; COD and T-P ; SS and Chlorophyll-a, Algae were analyzed as reliability value r>±0.77. The primary pollution factors of Gopoong reservoir with clean air and valley was caused by a temporary influent of the organic pollutants such as livestock wastewater and sewage of Gopoong-li Youngrakwon and the discharged water by tourist camps at Yonghyun valley and Wonpyung stream of Wawoo-li Woonsan-myun. Therefore, we wili have to minimize water pollution as laws is enforced on thelivestock wastewater and sewage drained from the villages and valleys around the reservoir.
