The emission characteristics of VOCs (volatile organic components) from industrial waste treatment facilities classified by Korea standard industry classification code (902) have been studied. The sampling was performed by using 3M OVM (organic vapor monitor) #3500 at 7 industrial waste treatment workplaces classified into 3 different kinds of 5 digits SICC (standard industry classification code) during from July to September 2004 in Sihwa Banwolindustry complex at Kyunggi province, Korea. The EPA 8020/8240 Aromatic Volatile Mix (10 chemicals, each 100μg/mL) was used as standard chemicals for quantitative analysis with a gas chromatography. Toluene was observed as a major emission component, with the concentration ranging from 0.5ppm to 14.0ppm. The order of emission concentration was toluene, styrene, ethylenebenzene and m,p-xylene. Another analyzed components, benzene, chlorobenzene, and dichlorobenzene, showed very low concentration compared to that of the toluene. The highest emission concentration was observed in SICC 90222 industry. The emission fingerprints of 3 different SICC showed different patterns according to their sampling sites and treatment characteristics.
