The Meaning of the Year of 1907 in the History of the Korean Presbyterian Church

2012년은 한국장로교회 총회 100주년을 기념하는 해이다. 지난 100년을 정리하고 앞으로의 100년을 준비하며, 하나님의 놀라운 은혜를 기대하는 차원에서 한국교회의 발전을 위한 다양한 제안들을 염두에 두면서 과거의 역사를 세가지 입장에서 살펴보며 정리한다. 먼저 한국사적인 관점에서 1907년을 평가할 때 강조되어야 할 것인 신민회 활동이다. 신민회는 조선말기의 격변의 시대에 애국계몽, 교육, 민족산업 육성과 군사훈련을 통하여 국가를 다시 세워나가려 하였다. 하지만 105인 사건으로 그것은 와해되고 말았다. 한국교회사적인 관점에서 1907년을 평가한다면, 무엇보다 평양대부흥운동이 중요할 것이다. 부흥을 위한 다양한 원인들이 소개될 수 있으나, 그의 준비단계로서 네비우스 선교전략이 중요하다. 그리고 더 나아가 1907년의 부흥만이 아니라 100여년 동안 한국교회에 부어주신 부흥을 함께 고려해야 할 것이다. 역사신학적 입장에서는 1907년에 있었던 독립노회를 중요하게 언급해야 할 것이다. 1901년부터 신학교육을 위한 제반사항에 대한 준비와 한국교회가 자립할 수 있도록 신앙고백을 위한 다양한 노력들이 선교사들에 의하여 준비된후에 마침내 노회의 기초가 되는 12신조가 마련되었다. 이를 토대로 마침내 1912년에 총회가 설립될 수 있었던 것이다. 교회의 중요한 기초 가운데 하나는 신앙고백이다. 독일 교회에서 있었던 신앙고백논쟁을 통하여 교훈을 받으면서 동시에 한국교회가 교훈을 받아 교회의 분열이나 정치적인 연합을 넘어 진정한 하나됨으로 12신조의 회복이나 혹은 21세기에 훌륭한 신앙고백을 만들어질 수 있기를 소망한다. 앞으로 전개될 일련의 역사적 사건들 역시 하나님의 뜻 가운데서 이루어진 것이며 앞으로 전개될 것이다.

It is 2012, Presbyterian Church of Korea to commemorate the 100th anniversary year that the General Assembly. Expecting to be God's amazing grace, we want to organize the last 100 years and to prepare the next 100 years. There are various proposals for the development of the Church in Korea. Regarding of various proposals, I want to analyze the history from the three kinds of perspective and evaluate them. In the viewpoint of Korean history, what we should emphasize the activity of Shinminhoe in 1907. Shinminhoe worked hard to re-establish the nation through the enlightened patriotism, education, industry promotion and military training. But the case of 105, which was deliberately manipulated by Japanese imperialism, Shinminhoe was collapsed. From the viewpoint of church history in Korea, the most important events in 1907 was Pyongyang Great Revival. In connection with this, Nevius missionary strategy should be dealt with. At the same time the continued revival in South Korea for nearly 100 years should be considered. On history- theological perspective, it was most important that independence Presbyterian was built in 1907. It admitted 12 creed which was the basis for it itself, further theological education matters had been prepared from 1901. To overcome of the divide or only political unity, 12 Creed should be emphasized or recovered. And I have great hope the church in South Korea th create a good confession for itself and for the churches in the world. Because of the will of God all of the events in Korean Church were fulfilled and also will be unfolded.
