The Relationships between Self-Esteem and Financial Variables of College Students

The purpose of this study was to explore the relationships between self-esteem and financial variables such as financial beliefs, financial behavior, financial satisfaction, and financial worries. The samples were selected from total 451 college students. Cronbach'α, chi-square test, Pearson' correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were applied for statistical analysis. The results were summarized as followings: 1) Chi-square tests showed that the two groups of respondents (those with low self-esteem and those with high self-esteem) were significantly different in the expectation of their future financial situation, the financial behaviors, and financial worries. 2) Multiple regression analysis showed that self-esteem was influenced most significantly by financial belief(the expectation of their future financial situation) and financial satisfaction.
