A study on female scientists’ attitudes of employment in regional area

The purposes of this research were to analyse the female scientists' general attitudes about job-seeking and employment conditions and to propose the developmental alternatives for advancing of the job capabilities. To study these objectives, the data were obtained through 331 female students living in Gwangju and Chonnam. The major findings were as follows: 1) Female scientists wanted to achieve scientific professions or technical qualifications while their need and effort for employment were very intensive. Also they needed more supportive role of education system like as college or related institutes. 2) Female scientists recognized that their specialty as science and technology were very important for job-seeking but professionalization systems were insufficient. Moreover effective role models are needed because women generally prefer stable jobs instead of creative opportunities like as smaller companies or venture business. 3) Social institutions and regimes must be changed for advancement of female scientists' contribution or development like as gender equality, social appraisals and support system, role-sharing, cohesive self-help activities and networking.
