A Study on the Uniform Design of Domestic and Foreign Cosmetic Brands

The purpose of this study was to survey present state of uniform design of cosmetic brands for providing the basic information of uniform design. The subjects of study were 27 cosmetic brand tenants of department stores located in Gwangju. The period of research was from March 24 to 27, 2008. The results of this study were as follows; first, while 19 cosmetic brands of the subjects put on uniforms, 8 did not. Second, cosmetic salespersons usually wore two-piece or three-piece suits and almost 80% of cosmetic brands chose a white or black color. Third, most brands used a contrast or accent color scheme. Fourth, for accessories, only one of domestic brands wore a scarf. On the other hand, the half of foreign brands wore one and more various accessories like a necklace, a belt, a brooch, etc. Based on these research results, domestic cosmetic brands used monotonous items for uniforms and most of them did not wear fashion accessories. While foreign cosmetic brands wore differentiate uniforms between the brands by using various items for uniforms and coordinating various fashion accessories which use logo or symbol of brand.
