School Adaptation of Children in Low Income Families and Related Variables- Focusing on Maternal Attachment, Social Support and Satisfaction of Educational Welfare Programs -

The purposes of this study were to investigate the general tendencies of school adaptation of children in low income families focusing on maternal attachment perceived by children, social support, satisfaction of educational welfare programs and to examine the influences of related variables. For this study, 438 elementary school students who participated the educational welfare programs(boys and girls, from 4th to 6th graders) from 5 elementary schools in Gwangju Metropolitan City were chosen and analyzed. The results of this study can be summarized as followings. Social support, satisfaction of educational welfare programs, maternal attachment of children and school adaptation are differ according to gender and grade. The scores of school adaptation are significantly affected by maternal attachment, friend support, family support, teacher support, satisfaction of educational welfare programs, etc. Therefore, more advanced and effective social supporters and educational welfare programs must be developed for low income children.
