The Coping Strategy for the Safety of Rural Community & Rural Elderly

The purpose of this study was to examine the area of safety and risk, and to find the coping strategy for the safety of rural community & rural elderly. For this purpose, Former researchesand intra & international projects about community safety were reviewed and in- depth interviews were conducted to ordinary rural elderly at 8 rural communities, specialists and leaders of rural area. As a result, 3 risk areas - ecological risk, technological risk and social risk- were examined and the specific risk factors and coping strategies were discussed. The safety community concept was put into practice in order to reduce the number of unintentional injuries occurring in the community. This research proposed strongly that the community based safety programs in Korean rural area is needed as a government policy.
