활용형의 변화에 대한 생성문법적 접근

The possibility of elucidation based on generative grammar on change of conjugations

이 논문은 활용형의 변화에 대한 생성문법적 이론화 가능성을 검토해 보는 데 목적을 둔다. 대상이 되는 김현(2006)의 의도는 “공시적 현상을 기술하기 위해 심층구조와 표면구조, 규칙을 마련한 생성문법을 통시적 현상의 설명에 적극적으로 활용하자”는 것이다. 치밀하면서도 체계적으로 이루어진 논의는 활용형의 변화를 생성문법적 관점에서 잘 설명해 내고 있다. 음변화에 의한 활용형의 변화도 기저형과 도출패러다임을 통해, 유추 또한 이형태, 표면형에 중점을 두는 것이 아니라 기저형에 중점을 두면서 생성문법의 틀 내에서 설명하고 있다. 어휘부 최적화, 형태소구조조건 등도 생성문법의 틀인 것이다. 공시적 언어 현상을 설명하기 위한 생성문법인 만큼 통시적 변화를 그 틀 속에서 완벽히 녹여내기란 그만큼 어려울 수밖에 없다. 저자는 체계적인 논리, 일관된 서술 태도를 통해 그 어려운 작업을 훌륭히 수행하였다. 많은 논의들이 이어진다면 한층 더 발전된 이론으로 한국어학 연구에 크게 기여할 것이다.

This paper aims to review the probability of elucidation based on generative grammar on diachronic change in morphophonological processes occurring in the combination of verbal stems and endings presented in Kim-Hyun(2006). Motivations of morphological changes are classified into three main categories; sound change, lexical optimization, and reanalysis. Particularly, author seeks answers in the following ways: leveling, contamination among multiple underlying form, simplification of underlying form selection condition, contamination among words, and morpheme structure condition. In his analysis, the author demonstrates thorough and systematic efforts that are highly regarded by the committee. If supplemented with further detailed analyses, his research should make a significant contribution to the field of Korean linguistics.
