An Action Research about the Program Development and Practice of Cultural Education for Immigrants

이 논문은 이민자를 대상으로 하는 <한국사회의 이해> 프로그램을 개발하고 적용한 실행 연구의 결과물이다. <한국사회의 이해> 프로그램은 동화주의 발상에서 벗어나 문화교육의 논리를 표방하고 있다. 이민자들의 생활세계를 고려하면서 일상적이고도 가시적인 문화 요소들을 중심으로 교육내용을 선정하였다. 또한 비교 문화의 관점에서 출신국의 문화와 한국 문화를 사고할 수 있는 기회를 제공하고자 했다. 그리하여 이민자들은 출신국과 한국 사이 문화 중개자 역할을 수행할 수 있는 역량을 확보하도록 했다. 한편, 이민자 교육 프로그램을 통해서 한국 문화를 상대화시킬 수 있는 기회를 가질 수 있었다. 한국문화가 이민자들의 문화와 관계를 맺고 교섭하는 상황을 가지다 보니 그 상대적인 위치가 발견될 수 있었다. 무엇보다도 이민자 교육 프로그램은 출신국 문화와 한국 문화 사이 비교 활동이 가장 중심적이다. 수강생들의 출신국이 다양하면 다양할수록 이러한 활동은 글로벌 교육의 양상이다. 즉, 여러 지역의 문화들이 한 자리에 모여서 서로 대화를 나누는 국면이면서 상호이해와 공존의 길을 모색하기 때문이다.

This paper is the result of an action research about the development and practice of educational program, Understanding Korean Society for Immigrants. The logic of this program is not model of assimilation but viewpoint of cultural education. Educational contents are composed of the cultural elements which are situated at immigrants' everyday life. Also, in a view of cross-cultural approach, immigrants could examine relations between their origin culture and Korean culture. Through this activity, the learners discover the location of Korean culture in relative visions. First of all, they participate at these cross-cultural activities in learning communities and experience the process of mutual understanding in a global society.
