Connecting History with Global Studies - A View from Global History-

최근 들어 글로벌스터디즈는 국제관계, 국가간의 발전 뿐 만아니라 문화, 문명들에 대한 초국가적인 테마들을 보려는 하나의 어프로치로서, 그리고 학문영역으로서 학제화되고 있다. 따라서 역사가들은 전통적이고 관습적인 연대기들에 정주하지 않고, 과거와 현재 및 잠정적인 미래를 이해하기 위해 글로벌스터디즈와 새로운 접속을 시도해야만 한다. 그것은 국가와 국가 정책들을 단선적으로 취급하려는 유혹에서 벗어나게 하고, 국제관계 연구에 널리 퍼져있는 단일-민족적(uni-national) 전망으로 부터 우리를 자유롭게 할 것이다. 모든 나라들에 대해 주의를 환기케 할 것이며, 수많은 초/비국가적인 실체들을 더욱 주목하게 만들 것이다. 이처럼 글로벌스터디즈의 글로벌한 전망과 접속된 연구와 저술을 통해 역사학은 글로벌스터디즈의 실천적인 한 부분이 될 것이다.

This article is to connect to Global Studies with the view of history of global and International relations. The development of global studies in 21st Century is arguably a product of globalization, and its consequent results on the international community. Globalization is a fact of life from which we cannot retreat. As a result of this constantly changing global community, Historians began to see a need for the introduction of global studies into Historical Study. The benefits of integrating global knowledge into History are plentiful and include cross cultural understanding, a sense of global community and the ability to critically analyse International affairs issues. global studies is anything different than simply international, or comparative, or area studies. Though the pace and intensity of globalization has increased enormously in the 21st century and the post-Cold War period of the 20th century, Transnational activity has historical antecedents. There are moments in history when there was a great deal of transnational activity and interchange on economic, cultural, and political levels. European colonialism during the 19th and 20th centuries provides another example of a global stratum of culture, education, technology, and economic activity upon which are based many aspects of globalization in the 21st century. Thus to understand fully the contemporary patterns of globalization, it is necessary to probe their historical precedents and connect to Global Studies.
