다문화사회에서 소수자교육의 의미와 접근법

The Significance and Approach of Minority Studies in Multicultural Society

본 연구는 다문화사회에 대한 이해를 바탕으로 우리 사회의 다양한 소수자에 대한 차별해소와 인권보호, 평등 그리고 이를 통한 사회정의와 사회·문화적 민주주의 등의 실현을 위한 교육적 접근을 모색하였다. 이를 위해 한국사회의 다문화화에 따른 교육적인 관심을 분석해보고, 이의 시사점을 바탕으로 소수자의 개념, 유형, 속성 등 소수자에 대한 전반적인 이해를 도모하였다. 그리고 이를 토대로 소수자교육의 필요성과 의미, 방향을 살펴보고 소수자교육과정을 구안하는데 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해 기존의 소수자에 관한 교육적 논의를 분석해보고, 일차·이차 자료원을 활용한 문헌연구를 통해 소수자의 개념적 정의와 분류의 방법, 소수자 차별의 배경, 그리고 소수자교육의 필요성과 의미, 방향에 대한 이론적 탐색을 하였다.

This study aims to explore the significance and approach of Minority Studies relevant to the Multicultural Society and to set a direction in Minority Studies. Recent minority groups in Korea show somewhat different characteristics from those of traditional minority groups in other countries. From the homeless to the disabled, north-korean escapers, homosexual groups, spouses who got married Koreans and foreign workers, these groups have incurred drastic changes in Korea as well as causing changes in the Korea community. Several research groups about minorities in Korea have been held in anthropology, human rights and social movement communities. Goals of this study were to investigate the issues of minorities in terms of education. Major results of this study are summarized as follows: First, the meaning of multicultural society in Korea was analyzed. Through this, most Koreans misunderstand multicultural society as racial heterogeneity. Second, this study examined multicultural education in Korean education system and explained the importance of Minority Studies. Third, this study observed the proper way of Minority Studies. From the results of analysis and exploration, the following aspects can provide more effective direction for Minority Studies; First, we should have a correct understanding of the meaning of a multicultural society in Korea. Second, it is necessary to recognize the characteristics of a minority. Third, Minority Studies should focus on making the population majorities attempt to break existing prejudice and discrimination against minorities. Fourth, it is important to organize the curriculum of Minority Studies without discriminating against minorities. Lastly, it is necessary to develop the concrete educational contents and the actual teaching methods of Minority Studies and to research field study to be applied these thing to them(Minority Studies).
