珍島地方의 男子 喪禮服 製作에 관한 研究

A Study on Mourning Dresses in the Jindo Provinces

The mourning ceremony dress worn by the dead’s close relatives is one of cultural remains which can maintain our tradition. The purposes of this study were to compare a male’s mourning ceremony dress of Jindo Province with one of historical records during the Chosun Dynasty and to suggest a scientific method on pattern-making of the mourning ceremony dress. For this study, Shoi-eui(衰衣) and Shoi-Shang(衰裳) composed of the mourning ceremony dress were rendered, based on a real mourning ceremony dress of Jindo Province which had handed down as one of cultural remains. It was found that there were a little proportional difference in details of the mourning ceremony dress between Jindo Province and the Chosun’ records and there was similarity in an overal form of the mourning ceremony dress. The results imply that the mourning ceremony dress of Jindo Province have retained a tradition since the Chosun Dynasty. In addition, it is interpreted as a geographical closeness due to an isolated island. It suggested a scientific method on pattern-making by sornatotypes in pursuit of formulating the proportion in details of the mourning ceremony dress. It was proposed to help retain our tradition related to the mourning ceremony dress by dissiminating what it is.
