The purpose of this study is to more perfectly Korean Catholic ceremonial costumes through analyzing the influence of the introdudion of Catholicism to Korea in the social and cultural fields, and relationship with the traditional culture. This study emphasizes investgatigating the meaning of symbol and the course change in ceremony costumes and considering the opinion of Priests on the subject. Korean Catholic Church’s ceremony costumes tend to simplify in thier kinds and wearing mothod and are being fixed into Korean style. Pope Paul Ⅱ was donated Woun-Mun-Dan imperial robe chasuble in memory of his visit to Korea in 1984. And the traditional Korean patterns and materials are used in making Korean Catholic ceremony costumes. In survey for chasublization of PO. the result showed that 65~70% of priests in Kwang-ju area agreed to use PO as a chasuble. Assuming that the meaning of ceremony costume is not changed, it was suggested that traditional Korean pattern and dyeing techniques should be applied to ceremony costumes. From the results, it is thought that chasublization of PO will be in the near future. Catholic ceremony costumes should be settled suitable to cultural feeling of Korean. Furthermore, costume researchers should have interest in ceremonial costumes and make efforts to suggest new idea.
