Housing Values among Urban Adolescents

This study is designed to explore patterns of housing values of adolescents. It also explore the correlations of housing values with background characteristics such as, educational level of father, occupations of parents, and household income, as well as characteristics of residence, such as size, type and age of house and homeownership. Questionnaires are administered to 526 adolescents from the four residential areas in Kwangju. The data was analyzed with the techniques such as, factor analysis, t-rest. One-way ANOVA using the Duncan’s Multiple Range test. 1) The patterns of housing values are classified into 6 factors : safety values, aesthetic values, comfortable values, convenience values, social values and economic values. Because most of adolescents take an interest in intimate surroundings, greatest an importance is placed mostly on the safety values, comfortability values and convenience values. Adolescents especially, consider privacy and mental rest as a matter of great importance distinctive features of adolescent preference. 2) It turn out that the sex of the adolescent and background characteristics such as educational level of father, occupation of father and mother, household income, type, and size and age of house and homeownership tend to be associated with housing values.
