Attitudes of Funeral Ceremony in Middle-aged person and Related Factors

As the proportion of the burial ground in national land has increased, the issue of the funeral ceremony has become a public and policy concern in recent Korea. Much of the research on funeral ceremony have focused on the funeral style(burial or cremation), ignoring the possible linkage between demographic characteristics and the attitude of funeral ceremony. In this regard, this study attempt to capture not only overall attitudes of funeral ceremony but also related factors on this altitudes. For the purpose. The data was gathered from 424 middle aged person living in Gwangju and Chonnam area, using structured questionnaire. Results show the various attitudes of the funeral ceremony. It is also shown that the attitudes are affected by the demographical characteristics of the respondents such as, age, gender, level of education, religion and region. Implications of these results for the policy are discussed.
