웨이브서퍼를 통한 영어발음학습 실험

An Experiment on Learning Fnglish Pronunciation through WaveSwfer : Focusing on Voiced Plosives

This paper examines the effectiveness of teaching English pronunciation to Korean speakers with the use of WaveSurfer, a speech analysis program. The phonetic experiment focuses on English voiced plosive consonants /b, d, g/ which are known to be very difficult for Korean speakers to master. 19 Korean college students participated in the experiment. They were asked to pronounce the identical test words in a carrier sentence before and after training with WaveSurfer. Their pre-training pronunciations reveal that they are heavily inclined to voice lag and also many of them exceed the permissible VOT ranges. In contrast, their post-training pronunciations show that they are able to utilize both voice lag and voice lead and also most of them keep the permissible VOT ranges. This pre/post training evaluation proves that teaching English voiced plosives with the help of WaveSurfer works well on Korean subjects.
