본 연구는 초등학교 특수학급의 성교육 실태를 조사하고, 성교육에 관한 특수교사의 인식을 살펴봄으로써 초등학교 특수학급에 있어서 체계적인 성교육 프로그램의 방향성과 효율적인 성교육 실천을 위한방안을 모색하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이에 따라 부산광역시와 경상남도 지역의 초등학교 특수학급을 담당하고 있는 특수교사 115명을 대상으로 설문조사연구를 실시한 결과, 다음의 결론을 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, 초등학교 특수학급의 성교육은 주로 특수교사가 담당하고 있었고, 재량활동 시간에 사춘기 신체변화에 대한 내용을 다루었으며 관련기관을 통한 지원은 부족한 편이었다. 둘째, 초등학교 특수학급교사들은 장애학생의 성 권리, 성교육 목적, 성교육 방법, 교사대처능력에서 하위 문항별로 긍정적 또는 부정적 인식을 나타냈고, 성별, 결혼여부, 경력, 연수경험의 변인에서 통계적으로 유의미한 차이를 보였다. 이를 토대로 초등학교 특수학급에서의 바람직한 성교육 프로그램 및 실행방안에 대하여 논의하였다.
The purpose of this study was to examine the state of sex education geared toward disabled elementary school students and the relationship of the gender, marital status, career and training experiences of special education teachers to their awareness of sex education in an attempt to provide some information and the right directions for sex education programs. The subjects were 115 special education teachers who were working in Pusan, Kyeongsangnam-do. The findings of the study were as follows: First, concerning the state of sex education for disabled elementary school students, the roles of the special education teachers were very important, and they took a more active attitude to sex education for disabled elementary school students than special education teachers usually had been. Second, the special education teachers took an active attitude to sex education for disabled elementary school students, but they didn't think that they were knowledgeable enough about sex education, and they didn't think that the given conditions, guidelines and assistance from related organizations were sufficient, either. Therefore more training should be provided for teachers to offer better sex education for disabled students with confidence.
