The purpose of this study is to investigate that African Americans’ stories in Beloved are deeply related to Korean people’s lives. In order to determine it, I read Beloved in terms of Korean shamanism and C. G. Jung’s analytic psychology. For its materialization, I regarded Paul D as a shaman. I suggest that he has shaman’s natures, for example, his exorcism, healing, listening to women’s troubles, entertaining abilities. Needless to say, he is also a priest. In addition, he has a sexual attraction and he communicated well with a lot of women. Because of his these qualities, Beloved came to him, hoping to be healed. She seduced him and their sexual relationship is an incest. This is because I regard Paul D as her substitute father. And in this paper, I concluded a series of courses from Beloved’s incarnation until being expelled by 30 women as a Korean traditional exorcism, Gut. Gut is a kind of Korean traditional exorcism, the peak of the Gut in Beloved is an incest between Paul D and Beloved. Through the incest of Gut, Paul D found his concealed anima, Beloved. Finally he realized the prime stage of development, individuation, a conception which was suggested by C. G. Jung. And it plays a role of self-healing. In this respect, Beloved is his unconsciousness. Beloved also acquires healing and comfort through an incest with Paul D. In this thesis, I told that her life was incomplete due to her mother’s infanticide. Therefore, She wanted to complete her life and death by incarnation and re-death. It is “unfulfilled desire” in terms of Psychoanalysis. On the other hand, 30 village women who exorcised Beloved can be shamans, too. By doing that, they keep their community including themselves. To them, Beloved is a collective unconsciousness. Therefore, Beloved reminds them of the terrible and sad history which they wanted to avoid telling. They face incarnated Beloved’s bad behaviors and keep their community safe through excluding her from their black community, Cincinnati, Ohio. By the exorcism, they don’t need to care Beloved and other related history. Therefore, they healed themselves. Finally, I defined Paul D as a “wounded healer” which was suggested by Henry Nowen, a modern Christianity philosopher because of the following reason. Although Paul D suffered from many hard experiences and he was nearly dead, he overcame it. At last, he came to help other needed people, especially women who were alienated from mainstream in the world in view of gender and race. Of course, in the center, there is Beloved.
