Based on the result of the questionnaire survey, this paper contrasts and discusses on the use of the terms of address for siblings of parents in Korean and Japanese kinship terms. The important findings are summarized as follows. Firstly, as a result of contrastive analyses of the terms of address for siblings of parents, the terms in Japanese are simplified to “ojisan” or “obasan”, however, it is confirmed that the terms in Korean are complicated and subdivided into “imo(mother’s sister)”, “komo(father’s sister)”, “konaboji(father’s elder brother)”, “jagunaboji(father’s younger brother)”, “wesamchon(mother’s brother)” and so on by the difference of gender, age, marital status, generation(hierarchy in family) and so on. Secondly, in Japanese, the terms of address for the kin of speaker’s generation such as “oniisan” and “oneesan” can be used for the kin of parent’s generation when their age and/or relationship are very close. On the other hand, in Korean, it is not allowed in any case to use the terms of address for the kin of speaker’s generation to the kin of parent’s generation.
